Whisk(e)y Review/ Bruichladdich Port Charlotte Heavily Peated - Islay Barley 2013

With a name like Bruichalalaladdidch, the distillery might have a name that confuses a lot of people, let's see if one of their whiskies does the same.

Color - White wine

Nose - Sweet peat, honey, citrus right off the bat. Some light malted barley, maybe some cooked apricots? Somehow it is light on its feet and rich all at the same time. The nose is not super complex, but it is damn enjoyable.

Palate - Peat, like a iodine peat, but with some campfire, then sweetness like a lemon tart with whipped cream. Light fruits, again something like an apricot. Some apple skins.

Finish - Medium/long, it feels almost more like an aftertaste than a finish, but the peat definitely carries through all the way.

Overall, I think this makes as a nice easy sipper for a heavily peated whisky. You can tell that it’s there, but the sweetness makes it so its a little easier to drink on a regular day-to-day (not that should, or shouldn’t… do what you want).
