Whisk(e)y Review/ Caol Ila 12 Year
A must try for Islay whisky lovers.
Color - White wine
Nose - Campfire the day after in your clothes. Wood smoke, maltiness, citric fruits, lemon zest, a little vanilla cream, maybe some honey, some meatiness but it’s not heavy. Hints of tropical fruits? No, apple, iodine. It’s a rabbit hole of flavours and it is complex for 12 years.
Palate - Campfire, like tasting the smoke and ashes (it’s delicious), sweet vanillas but their light, that meatiness is there with the lemon zest. It is soft and mouth coating with no real bitty, just a lot of smoke.
Finish - Long, it sits around kind of changing from smoky to sweet with a tartness to it.
If you like other distilleries from the island of Islay and you haven’t tried Caol Ila yet and it’s not on your list of distilleries to try, you should update your list…
