Whisk(e)y Review/ GlenAllachie 12
The Glenallachie 12 is easily one of my favourite daily drinkers, but its a little tough to get where I am so I still need to take my time with it…
Color - Dark brown with hues of red.
Nose - Right away it has some heft with dark fruits showing first, dates, prunes, its pretty sweet as will with some candied nuts, dark bitter chocolate, jammy, a little fruit cake maybe? A little citric acidy, toasted wood.
Palate - Sweet dates, figs, prunes, that toasted oakiness follows through, light pepperiness, jam and slight hints of some dark chocolate with strawberries, a little nutty, candied almonds. The mouth feel is very nice and really coats the palate. The sherry influence is strong with this one.
Finish - Long. Its sweet to finish and leave a nice aftertaste that makes you keep going back for more.
Notes: Like I said, as a daily sipper, this is great if you like sherries whiskies. To me, this is the best (that I have tried) bang for your buck “sherry bombs” (even though it isn’t cask strength).
Score - 8/10
