The New Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Limited Edition
Montblanc, a company most people think only make pens.
This year (2021) for the Watches And Wonders show, Montblanc revealed one of my favourite watches to come from them. They released the 1858 Geosphere in a limited edition run with a case made in Bronze.

Not only is the case made in Bronze, but this Geosphere will be made with a smoked brown to beige dial with luminescent rose-gold numerals and indexes. On the dial you will also find a date window, worldtime with two turning domed Northern and Southern Hemisphere displays, day and night displays for each, and a small subdial for the running seconds.
The domed Northern and Southern Hemispheres are really special as the continents displayed are also luminescent for better visibility at night. That, plus, Montblanc indicated around the exterior of those, a 24hr display so you can tell the time in whatever part of the world. Additionally, they give you a day and night display, so you know whether the sun is shining, (theoretically. It doesn’t tell you if it is raining) or the moon is in full glow.

As for the case, like mentioned before, this is a 42mm bronze case with a rotating brown ceramic bezel and the four cardinal directions marked. The Geosphere also has a fluted crown, domed sapphire crystal, and a beautiful case back with an engraving of the Flaming Cliffs of the Gobi Desert, and a Compass Rose displayed.

Unfortunately, with the case back used, we won’t be able to see the (what I assume is also beautiful) in-house MB 29.25 Automatic movement inside. The movement will beat at 4Hz but will only have a total power reserve of 42hrs, not a significant amount in today’s standards, but it does need to move a lot of things inside the watch.
The Montblanc Geosphere 1858 model is not limited in quantities however, this one specifically, the bronze version, is limited to a total of 1,858 pieces.
The inspiration behind the 1858 collection comes from the Minerva watch made in the 1920s and 1930s, but for the Geosphere, Montblanc wanted to reflect the heritage of the spirit of mountain exploration and for the Seven Summit Mountaineering challenge.
Overall, I love this watch, some might not see why, but it just reminds me of something that you might find out in the desert (also where the inspiration for the color came from). The all-around matching colors of the watch along the two not so subtle Hemisphere displays tie together what I think is an amazing depiction of a complicated watch.
Unfortunately, as mentioned, this limited edition will only be made for a lucky 1,858 people, and all of them have already sold.
