Pumpkinferno 2019

Today we talk about my trip to Pumpkinferno 2019.

The trip all started a few months back, when my lovely girlfriend sent me a link to an event called Pumpkinferno in, Upper Canada Village (if that isn't clear). She sent the link and said something along the lines of "don't you think this would be fun" and my first thought as usual was no.... But after looking into it with her I thought, huh maybe this could be interesting. And so it was!

So our travel began, leaving Montreal around 11:30am and getting to Upper Canada Village around 1pm, our first idea was to go visit the village and see what they had going on. Unfortunately when we got there the village was closed and had been since October 15th. It wasn't exactly clear from the website that the site had closed to the public and would be only open for special events.

We left and headed back towards our hotel. We stayed at the Regency inn, right across the street from the Comfort inn in, Cornwall. Our initial plan was to stay at the Best western, but by the time we got around to booking there was no rooms available (thanks to a hockey tournament that was happening at the same time). That being said the location was pretty good, only being about 25 minutes from the event and a three minute drive to the nearest Mcds and Mall, which has an LCBO for all my fellow alcoholic's. Just kidding but not really, the room was small but nice, though I do have some complaints, it smelled a bit musky and humid as well as having a granola bar wrapper on the floor. I wouldn't be complaining about that if I didn't know the guy wasn't in there five minutes before we showed up... Other than that, for the price we paid which was around a hundred dollars, there wasn't much to say about it.

Now about getting to the event, we had some friends come with us so they came to pick us up and we made our way there. Lucky for us the direction we were going in (SW) didn't have much traffic to get into the parking, but coming from the other direction (NE). Holy fuck! Let me just say I could see head lights for about 300 m down the road. Once we were parked we started to make our way to the entrance. We saw some of the lights and pumpkins on our way and once we got to the entrance there was a nice lady waiting for us to give our tickets and added them to her pile, without checking anything. Could we have just photocopied the same paper and shared it amongst four people? yes 100% but we didn't know that and don't tell anyone I told you...

Once the tour really started, the first exhibit we walked passed was a train and a few spinning objects all carved from pumpkin. And incase you haven't googled it by now Pumpkinferno is basically and outdoor art show of which everything is made from Pumpkins. As we kept going we made our way to the dog exhibit where they had a BUNCH of dogs carved from pumpkins some looking like they were rolling around and others had toys or leaches. And yes they had one that was a pug. The next section boasted a 15 foot tall T-rex and a few other, smaller dinosaurs of which I don't know what the fuck they are called. As we kept walking we made our way past a few smaller exhibits, one being different generations of bicycles and another just had pumpkins carved with different shapes and designs in them. The Next major exhibit was the enchanted forest, that's right it had unicorns, mushrooms (you could technically eat them but they won't give you and fun effects), wizards, deer and lanterns hanging from the trees. After another few smaller sections we made our way to the witches brew exhibit. Basically five witches around a pot with some sounds effects in the background. There was then the underwater exhibit with sea turtles, a MASSIVE octopus, and some smaller sea creatures that made it look like everything was underwater, it also had Bubbles floating around to make you feel like you were in the water with the animals. Oh and I almost forgot they also had Nemo and Dory. We then made our way to a North Pole exhibit and an outer space one with astronauts and a rocket ship. For my fellow Canadians they had one little showing of hockey players that looked like they were skating on ice, so that was pretty cool. The final exhibit was super hero based and not gonna lie they had some super hero's that we're pretty close to ones we already know but maybe with a name change? After an hour and a half we had made our way to the exit which had bathroom (not made of pumpkins) and boy did I need to piss.

All in all I would say it was definitely a fun trip, from staying in a hotel that wasn't a chain to visiting a little town that I had only ever driven passed. Getting to see this magnificent art display with all of the great pieces, again, all carved from pumpkin. I would without question tell anyone to go and see it, because it really was mind blowing. From the different animals and shapes to seeing pumpkins hanging in trees. I am glad my girlfriend sent me the link and I am looking forward to any other events that they will have. Thank you Upper Canada Village for putting on a great event for all ages.
