2021 Lincoln Nautilus
It’s a Lincoln, how much were you really expecting?
For those of you that don’t know, Lincoln is owned by Ford. Thus, a large portion of the designs you see with Lincoln derive from those of their Ford counterparts. In this case for the Nautilus, we would be looking at the Ford Edge. Though the similarity is clearly visible, Lincoln has always been known as Ford’s “fancy” counterpart, and you can see that carry through with the Nautilus.

On the exterior, we see a very elegant, yet simple design, soft body lines, and a truck that looks like it could blend right in. To spice it up, Lincoln does offer the Monochromatic package; which adds some black bits to replace the chrome ones (mainly the grill), 21” black sport wheels, and well... not much else. Unfortunately, with the position that Lincoln is already in (appealing to the more, let’s call them, matured group) it would be best to add more design features to try to connect to the younger crowd.

Luckily, Lincoln does offer two engine options for the Nautilus. The first; (and likely the one the matured group will go for) a 2-litre turbo inline 4cyl putting out 250hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Not terrible when compared to the QX50 from last week’s article. That being said, For-... sorry Lincoln, does offer a more exciting engine package, that is the 2.7-litre turbo V6 Ecoboost which can also be found in the Ford Edge ST. This beauty pumps out 85 more horsepower over the 2-litre option and 380 lb-ft of torque (please and thank you).
Paired with both of the engine options, you get the 8-speed automatic. For the 2-litre engine option, Lincoln offers both FWD & AWD, with the 2.7-litre, only being offered with their All-Wheel Drive with AWD disconnect system, both also having the auto start-stop function. This allows for a kilometre rating of 10.7L/100km with the 2-litre engine option, but the V6 isn’t that far off with a rating of 10.9L/100km.

On the inside, Lincoln has kept the simple, yet elegant theme going. You get one 13.2” infotainment display with some buttons, however, they do offer different colour options. Lincoln offers a “Black Label Chalet” option as well as a “Sandstone” option. Both change the colour of the seats, as well as the accent colours.

Overall, for what it is, it isn’t that bad. I’m glad they decided to try and appeal to the younger crowd by offering the black options, but really, I don’t think there are going to be very many “first time luxury car” buyers walking into the Lincoln dealer. That being said, for the older person who wants comfort and quietness with the style to fit in with the younger crowd, then hey, maybe this is for you.
