My First Two Weeks Working From Home

I want to start by saying, if you work from home for two weeks and don’t start to go a little crazy. Then you might already be crazy…

The last two weeks have been quite interesting. From being stuck in the house, to not having all of my usual equipment to work with. For example; I’ve had to work from only a laptop (usually I have two extra screens). So, that took some time to get used to, then it was getting used to making sure all my work I could usually get done, got done. For more context let me explain what it is that I do for a living (as writing doesn’t make me any money).

I work in customer service; I won’t say what brand or company I work for but if you search hard enough, you’ll probably be able to figure that out. I take care of footwear, mostly work boots but also lifestyle wear. Basically, my job consists of entering orders, helping consumers with e-commerce, warranty claims and other bits and pieces as well. For stores I enter orders and take care of those orders to make sure they get out the door. For e-commerce I help consumers with any of the warranty claims, making sure they receive their orders or help when they need to send them back for any reason. All this done from behind (usually) two screens. I don’t take care of the packing of the orders, that happens at our DC which is not a part of the head office.

So that’s what I do. So how have I managed doing “all” of that from home? Well, so far, so good! But I’ve found that following my daily routine has really helped. For example, when I wake up, I like to take a shower and do all of my morning habits like, brushing my teeth because you know... Also, COFFEE! Jesus Christ has that ever helped. The point that I’m getting to is, if you stick to what you would usually be doing during the day it keeps you concentrated and not distracted by your TV or something else.

That being said, you can still get distracted, obviously we're all human and some of us the lazy type that enjoy our TV shows. Some people can also do both. By that I mean, some can watch TV and work at the same time. I can be of one of those people but, I can’t watch a TV series and work, although, I have no issues listening to a podcast and working. Some of the more popular ones I listen to are; The Powerful JRE, Your Moms House, and The Smoking Tire.

Although at times working from home can be fun, I have also found it to be a bit hard at times. Especially when in the situation I and the rest of the world are stuck in. By that I mean, none of us can leave our fucking homes. And that’s what drives me a little, well, crazy. The only two stores I’ve gone to in the last two weeks are; Walmart (for groceries) and fucking SAQ for alcohol. Side note for those who might be in the US, our Walmart’s in Canada don’t sell booze. We have to the SAQ or Société des alcools du Québec or a convenient store (also known as a DEP in Quebec)

In conclusion, if you are also working from home and are trying not to drive yourself fucking crazy, try finding a hobby. I’ve started a 1500 piece puzzle and built a Lego Audi Quattro, and working out. But I will keep doing what I do and trying not to go crazy.

Stay safe and stay home!
