Another car the North American market won't see
Again, we are brought an amazing looking and probably amazing performing car, that unfortunately we will never see (unless you go to Europe).
Today, we’re talking about the Volkswagen Touareg R.
I want to start by pointing out that this is easily the best looking Touareg to get released in the last 10 years. And, given the R touch, just adds more pep to the party. This thing comes factory with those beautiful black 22’s and all of the black trim they could fit on this thing. The R is also going to come with some interior changes like; Fancy leather with grey stitching and R-line interior trim.
With the R, Volkswagen is also starting its long path to electrification, by making this Touareg the first VW R vehicle to feature a hybrid system. Not only that, it’s also the most powerful hybrid Volkswagen has ever released (we can only hope it’ll come to the Golf R).
This Touareg is going to have a 3.0-liter gas engine making 335hp, paired with an electric motor making 134hp, giving it a grand total of 456hp! In a Touareg? Where do I sign? All of that is going to be mated together with an 8-speed transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION AWD system. And, from what I can understand it’ll make 516lb-ft of torque, not bad for a Volkswagen SUV.
The electric motor in this thing is quite snazzy. Volkswagen claims that most of its commuters are going to be able to drive their daily trips all on the 14.1 kWh Lithium-ion battery. Unfortunately, there is no rating how many kilometres you’ll be able to get on a full charge, but we know that you’ll be able to go up to 140km/h strictly on the electric motor, so that’s fun.
The Touareg also has some other fun features, like one. Being able to tow up to 3.5 tones, for a mid-size SUV, that’s not to shabby. It also has an assisted driving, that will work all the way up to 250km/h! Why you might ask? That’s because Volkswagen is German and in Germany, they have what’s called the Autobahn, and that beautiful highway doesn’t have speed limits…
It does suck that we aren’t going to get this SUV here in North America, especially since SUV sales have gone up in Canada and the US over the last few years. But, I’m going to keep my hopes up that either we get this beauty here, or we get an R version of the Atlas. But, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
