The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class brings a new level of “class” to the C-model range.

For 2022 Mercedes have been hard at work redesigning areas of the C-Class to improve its consumer value. For starters, the interior pulls more details from the S-Class, like a driver-oriented dash and centre console to keep a sporty yet refined look. The exterior also received some work adding powerdomes to the hood and new two-piece taillights.

Furthermore, the C-Class will be available with three new color options including spectral blue, high-tech silver and opalite white, and you will have the option to have it with either 18 or 19-inch wheels.

On the inside, the C-Class keeps some key design features from the previous year, while changing elements to add more “driver” feel into the car, while still keeping it as classy as a Mercedes can be. A large high-resolution LCD screen will appear to be floating in the driver’s cockpit and will be available in two sizes: 10.25 or 12.3-inches. For the Centre console, there will be a 11.9-inch portrait orientated touch display, which also looks as though it is floating.

The new C-Class will also feature Mercedes’ most recent version of their MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) system, which allows for in car controls to aid the driver. Mercedes have been working to make the system better and simpler to use by adding a voice activation system called “Hey Mercedes” into it. The system will also be available to work in conjunction with your smart home and will allow you to ask questions like the following: “Hey Mercedes, is there anyone in my home?”. What you don’t hope to hear as a response is: “Yes, your wife and the mail man are in the bedroom”.

For power, the new C-Class will have a four-cylinder turbo engine with a few added features, one of which includes, the ISG (integrated starter-generator) from Mercedes. This system uses a 48-volt on-board electrical system and allows for a smooth start stop function, as well as low end power and energy recovery.

The newly designed turbo and engine add a total of 20hp and 147 lb.-ft of torque over last year’s model bringing the total power for the C300 4MATIC to 255hp and 295 lb.-ft of torque.

The C-Class will be had with the 9G-TRONIC transmission and Mercedes’ 4MATIC system, meaning that it will be AWD as standard.

Mercedes has improved the driver assisted settings to make the day-to-day easier on the driver. In the C-Class, the driver will be offered the following types of assistants; Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC (basically radar cruise control to keep the distance of the car in front of you), Active Steering Assist (to keep you in your lane up to 210km/h, please just pay more attention), and Traffic Sign Assist (to let you know what the sign on the road you just passed is, like a stop sign).

Lastly, Mercedes has been able to increase the overall room on the interior of the C-Class. The wheelbase has been increased by a total 25mm from the previous year giving both the drive and passengers more space in the cabin. Along with that, the overall length and width have also been increased to 4751mm long and 1820mm wide.

All in all, I can say that I really like the new C-Class. Now, obviously if I had the choice the AMG version would certainly be my go-to, and in that case, it would be the A-Class anyways. But, to stay on topic, I think Mercedes have drastically changed the C-Class from the original that I fell in love with, but I am happy to say that so far, I am still really liking the way they look (and assume they drive).
