The New Volkswagen Golf Mk8
The new Volkswagen Golf will be a major advancement for Volkswagen and all of the Golf generations to follow.

The new golf will offer a brand-new interior with big changes to the interface. Volkswagen has chosen to go with a digital dash that will allow all of the interactions to be made directly on the screen. With that, the golf will also support a digital gauge cluster hopefully not making it impossible to see in the sun.

Underneath, the Golf doesn’t change all that much, but as the saying goes “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. That being said, Volkswagen will be introducing a slew of new engine choices, as well as some hybrid options for those who might want to help save mother earth. Some of the engine choices include a 2.0L-turbo, 1.5L-turbo, two diesel options, and again some of those available with one of three hybrid systems. Unfortunately, however, Canada will only be receiving one of those options and obviously, it’s the slowest one. Yes, Canada, will only get the 1.5L TSI and we still have not gotten confirmation on whether we will have a manual option. The 1.5L offers 147hp and 184lb-ft of torque, all of which will only be sent to the two front tires.

If for some reason (most people) you want more power, then don’t worry, both the GTI and Gold R will still be available in Canada. The GTI and the Golf R will be powered by a 2.0L-turbo charged motor, and the Golf R will obviously keep the 4Motion AWD system.
Also new for the MK8 Golf, is Volkswagen's Car2X system which allows for the Golf to “chat” with the other cars on the road up to half a mile away, letting the car know about construction, emergency vehicles, traffic, and road hazards. This seems like a great system, and hopefully it works as well as they say it will. The golf will also feature assisted driving up to 210km/h. You know, for those on the Autobahn that can legally go that fast.

In the end, I look forward to seeing the MK8 Golf on the road, and maybe even getting the chance to drive one. I like the way it looks, and I would most likely, like the way it drives.
08/25/2020 Edit*: Unfortunately, Canada will not be receiving the newest Golf. Confirmed by the PR Manager from Volkswagen Canada to Le Guide De L'auto.
