Aston Martin DBX
The world of expensive, fast and luxurious SUV's is an interesting one. With more auto manufacturers coming out with luxury SUV’s, we are starting to see a future full of hundred thousand dollar trucks. This is interesting, because I feel like people tend to think when you get to a point that you can afford a two hundred thousand dollar car, the first thing you want is a sports car. But it seems as though nowadays, that idea has started to change. People want to be higher off the ground but still be able to go 0-60 in under five-seconds. Or drive like an asshole in traffic.
This is where the Urus or Brabus G wagon (ultimate truck that drives like ass), Porsche Cayenne coupe or the new Aston Martin DBX come into play. But today we are going to shine light on the new player to the game, the Aston.
Having started the design back in 2015, Aston worked trying to come up with the best luxury SUV on the market, boasting the most cabin and truck space, a twin turbo V8 putting out 542bhp and 516lb-ft, which is pretty fucking awesome if you ask me. Does that make it the most powerful SUV on the market? No. Is it the best looking? Not really. But does it have an amazing interior? Holy shit yes. All this combined makes a pretty cool SUV.
Lets talk about the power and drivetrain. The DBX comes with the 4.0L twin turbo V8 out of the DB11 and Vantage making again 542bhp! That engine combined with a nine speed automatic gearbox propels this truck from 0-62km/h in 4.5 seconds! And a top speed of 291km/h. Not quite as fast as the Urus but faster then the Porsche Cayenne S. Combined with the nine speed gearbox is an electronically controlled centre and rear differential. Oh, and a carbon fibre driveshaft! Having electronically controlled diffs gives you the adjustability when you are changing terrains; offering four on road, and two off road settings.
The drivetrain combined with the new eARC controlled sway bars and electronically controlled suspension really gives you the choice to make this thing feel like a serious road “car” or nice soft off-roader. The electric suspension also gives you the option to raise the DBX by 45mm or lower it by 50mm (for those stance boys).
To stop this monster of a truck weighing 4,940lb, are big 410mm 6 piston brakes up front and 390mm rears. You’ll also get 22” wheels on the base model with Pirelli P Zero’s front and rear.
On the interior you get full grain leather with an Alcantara headliner and wool on the lower part of the interior, a nice Piano black wood veneer trim, seats deviated from the DB11, a speaker system developed with Harman Samsung and a massive panoramic sunroof all with the base model. Although, there are plenty of ways to customize the interior to the way you like it.
With the DBX you get the biggest grill Aston has ever put on a car as well as a larger emblem, just so you can really show it off. Personally, I like the look of it. I think the way things are going in the luxury SUV market are pretty good. I’ve always been a fan of the coupe style and I think it suits this truck very, very well. Funny thing about the way the roof leads to the rear window; they designed it in a such a way, that no debris gets stuck on the rear window by pulling the air from the roofline down under the rear wing and onto the window.
So there is it, the Aston Matin DBX! In my opinion it is a great looking truck, but I'm having a hard time placing it with a retail price of C251,000.00$ coming short of the Lamborghini Urus, but more than the Porsche Cayenne Turbo. Will the extra money be worth the extra space? Or will people continue to buy the other cars and trucks in that price market? I’m not sure and until I drive it, I wont be able to give my best and most honest opinion. That being said, Aston when can I come out and drive it?
